Thangamale Sanctuary is a pristine nature reserve nestled in the heart of the central highlands of Sri Lanka, near the town of Haputale where Covered an area of approximately 800 hectares,this sanctuary is a rich biodiversity, stunning landscapes, and unique cultural significance. The sanctuary its name, "Thangamale," which means to "Golden Mountain" in the local language, from the shimmering golden glow that bathes its peaks at sunrise and sunset, creating a truly magical sight for visitors. Thangamale Sanctuary is characterized by its diverse ecosystems, ranging from lush montane forests to expansive grasslands and rocky outcrops. These habitats support a wide variety of flora and fauna, including endemic and endangered species found nowhere else on Earth. The sanctuary is the home of including several species of mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. Visitors may encounter elusive creatures such as leopards, sambar deer, wild boar, and various species of monkeys as they explore the sanctuary's trails and pathways where with over 100 species of birds recorded within its boundaries.
