
Birdwatching in Wilpattu National Park
Bird watching in Wilpattu is a rewarding activity due to the park's impressive diversity of bird species. Approximately 200 bird species can be found here, including residents, migratory birds, and several endemic species. The varied ecosystems within the park, ranging from dense forests and open grasslands to scrublands and coastal belts, support this rich birdlife, making it a prime location for ornithologists and birding enthusiasts alike. Wetland , Residents and Migratory bird species found in the Wilpattu National Park include the Garganey, Pin tail, Whistling Teal, Spoonbill, White Ibis, Large White Egret, Cattle Egret and Purple Heron, many species of Gulls, Terns, Owls, Kites and Eagles ,Sri Lanka Jungle fowl, Little Cormorant,Greater Flamingo , Eurasian Spoonbill, Black-tailed Godwit, Sri Lanka Grey Hornbill, Malabar Pied Hornbill, . Brown Fish Owl , Crested Serpent Eagle, Sri Lanka Green Pigeon ,. Sri Lanka Woodshrike Sri Lanka Spurfowl, Sri Lanka Bay Owl , Crimson-fronted Barbet.

Best Season
November to April is the best period to do Birdwatching in and July ,August also recommended months.
Things to Know
- Personal effects for Warm/Windy/Rainy conditions should be carried by clients.
- Insect repellent, Sunburn lotion etc. are recommended Special dietary requirements should be notified in advance
- Clients must have good pair of Shoes/boots, Sutable wear of Safari and Sunglasses Clients have Binoculars and Camara etc , it would be better
- Our experienced and well-trained Safari Ranger would take every precaution to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all guests on tour as your safety is our prime concern.

Breakfast arrange at 8.30am near the Resting point and after Birdwatching session
Lunch time arrange at 12pm by Resting point and after Birdwatching session
Return back to Wilpattu entrance at 6pm by ending Session
