Birdwatching in Yala National park

Yala National Park is second Largest Nation park and most famous ,highest numbers of visiting National park of Srilanka. Where located in the south eastern region of Sri Lanka and extends over two provinces of Hambantota district of southern province and Monaragala district in Uva province. The entrance to the park is at Palatupana, 12km from Kirinda. The distance from Colombo to the entry point of Palatupana is 305 km. Yala National Park that consists of six blocks Though Yala spreads over an area of 1260 square kilometers, only one fifth of the area is open to the visitors. Four-fifths of the park is a strictly designated Natural Reserve. Adjoining the eastern border of the park is Kumana.This park is home to an extensive variety of 44 varieties of mammal and over 215 bird species. observed here. Still further it is known as one of the 70 most important bird areas in Sri Lanka with 215 bird species of which six, namely Sri Lanka Sri Lanka jungle fowl, Purple Swamphen, Pheasant tailed Jacana, Crested Hawk Eagle, Crested Serpent Eagle, White bellied sea Eagle, Black Headed Ibis, Blue faced Malkoha, Shikar's Malkoha, Painted Stork, Asian openbill, Lesser Adjutant, Wooly Necked Stork, Little Green Bee - Eater Blue Tailled Bee - Eater,
