    Birdwatching in Sinharaja Forest

    Sinharaja Rain Forest is a UNESCO World Heritage Site of Srilanka . One of Important Sri Lanka's tropical lowland rainforest, covering by an area of 18,900 acres and It ranges in altitude from 300m to 1,170m.. It is located in the Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces, Sinharaja Forest Reserve is home to over 50% of Sri Lanka's endemic species of mammals and butterflies, as well as many species of insects, reptiles, and rare amphibians. Sinharaja has recorded over 154 species of birds and is known to have a ‘mixed-species feeding flocks’ or informally called a ‘bird wave’ where two or more species feed and move together. This unique sight witnessed at Sinharaja sometimes consists of flocks containing 30-50 birds of various species sometimes 10-12 species, erupting in various bird sounds as they feed and move within a short time. Taking lead in this exercise the endemic birds witnessed here include the Orange-billed babbler and the Crested drongo. Ceylon Lorikeet, Layard’s parakeet, Jungle & Spur fowl, Sri Lanka Blue magpie, Sri Lanka Grackle, Ceylon Hanging parrot, Ceylon Grey hornbill, Ashy-headed laughing thrush, Layard’s parakeet, Spotted-wing thrush, Brown-capped babbler, Ceylon Hill mynah, Red faced malkoha, Legge’s flower-pecker amongst many others.

    Things to Know

    • Personal effects for Warm/Windy/Rainy conditions should be carried by clients.
    • Insect repellent, Sunburn lotion etc. are recommended Special dietary requirements should be notified in advance.
    • Clients must have good pair of Shoes/boots, leech socks, long sleeve t-shirts and pants… Clients have Binoculars and Camara etc , it would be better
